Wiring on an OBD2 Plug to your Kia FE3
Below is a basic guide to wiring up a OBD2 plug to replace your 20 pin Kia Diagnostic Port. More diagrams can be found at Sportage Wiring Diagrams.
Background info on Kia K20 Diagnostic
Kia's diagnostic port is a 20 pin to suit their tools, it can easily be adapted to suit OBD2 on some ecu's as it already has most of the wires. Either you can plug in a K20 to OBD2 adapter or hardwire an OBD2 in its place. Its wiring diagram for the K20 is below;
55 Pin Pinout
Pin 20(T) - to ecu 31
Pin 19(Q) - to ecu pin 13 (Auto Only)
Pin 13(C) - Ground
Pin 12(S) - Ground
Pin 11(P) - to ecu pin 21
Pin 9(K) - to ecu pin 55
Pin 5(B) - From fuel pump after relay (switched on with fuel pump)
Pin 4(R) - Ground
Pin 3(O) - from ecu pin 1
Pin 1(A) - 12v switched(by relay) from fuel pump 10A Fuse
88 Pin Pinout
Pin 14(F) - To ABS Diag Unit Pin 3 & OBD Pin 13
Pin 13(M) - Ground
Pin 12(L) - Ground
Pin 9(I) - to ecu Pin 83
Pin 5(B) - 12v witched(by key) On & Start 10A fuse
Pin 4(R) - Ground
Pin 3(C) - from ecu pin 52
Pin 1(A) - 12v switched(by relay) from fuel pump 10A Fuse
OBDII Pinout
OBDII or OBD2 has 16 pins, Not all are used as they accommodate different types of communication on different pins. See general diagrams below;
Wiring OBDII to 88 pin ECU
To wire in the missing OBD2 port to your 88 pin ecu you will need to splice wires to a OBD2 plug to the following places;
Pin 16 - Constant 12v 30a fused
Pin 15 - ECU Pin 83
Pin 13 - Pin 3 on ABS Diag Unit (not needed)
Pin 12 - ECU pin 60 on 88 pin ecu
Pin 5 - Earth
Pin 4 - Earth
Wiring OBDII to 55 pin ECU
This is currently untested, Please provide us feedback!
Pin 16 - Constant 12v 30a fused
Pin 15 - ECU pin 55
Pin 13 - Pin 3 on ABS Diag Unit (not needed)
Pin 12 - Pin 6 of your K20 (not sure if needed)
Pin 5 - Earth
Pin 4 - Earth
